Smartphone is now one of the most popular consumer gadget. If you previously used the smartphone is believed to boost the prestige, are now using smartphones more likely due to its function. One thing that triggered this change is due to the falling price of a smartphone. If a few years ago you would have to spend more than 2.5 million dollars to have a smartphone, now you simply do not provide funding for up to 2 million dollars.
One of the popular smartphone in Indonesia is the BlackBerry. With increasing competition, the development of smartphone operating system also automatically heats up. Since last year, RIM has released BlackBerry OS 7 operating system. Unfortunately, before the advent of the BlackBerry Curve 9220 - also known as the Davis - BlackBerry smartphone with OS 7 is the cheapest Apollo or the Curve 9360 is still priced at Rp 3.2 million.
BlackBerry Curve 9220 alone predicted to be sold in the market considering the price is the lowest compared to other BlackBerry OS 7. What kind of performance? Here are the results of our tests.
Design
There is nothing surprising from the view outside. Physical design of the Curve 9220 was almost identical to the Apollo (Curve 9360) and Gemini (8520). I will often compare it with the BlackBerry Gemini, since both are equal in its price range. Both have very similar size, only the Curve 9220 has a thinner body about 1.2 mm. The glossy finish makes the body susceptible to scratches, like Gemini.
More pronounced difference when using the QWERTY keyboard. Although a glance at the design of the keyboard, but the QWERTY keyboard on the Curve 9220 is more convenient than the Gemini 8520. Size and the spacing between the keys that fit makes typing activity can be done accurately and not tiring.
Quick access keys (shortcut key) provided a slight change. If on the right side has provided the volume button and the camera, now on the left side you will find a quick button to access the BBM (BlackBerry Messenger). The last key is certainly very useful if you frequently use the chat facility.
Features and Performance
Considering this is the BlackBerry OS 7 version of the current cheapest GSM, the specifications given also will not surprise you. There is one new feature not found on other BlackBerry series, the FM radio. Unfortunately this feature is already included very general and can be found in mobile phones costing hundreds of thousands though since a few years ago. Still, better late than never. The user interface is quite simple when you access the radio and lets you listen to radio broadcasts. Other features include accelerometer sensor and a compass and document viewer. The multimedia features are pretty standard with the ability to play video in MP4 format, .H263/.H264 and audio files in MP3 format, eAAC +, WMA, WAV and FLAC. Of course, to multimedia, you can use a microSD card that has been backed up to 32GB capacity.
To capture the moment, Curve 9220 features a 2 megapixel camera without autofocus and flash. With this camera, you can also record VGA video (640 X480 pixels). Both the camera and the video is pretty standard, but it is sufficient if it merely fuel or sent via email. Even when compared to smartphones in its price class, the performance of the camera and the video is quite lagging.
Speaking of performance, the BlackBerry Curve 9220 quite responsive when used to access the various menus, especially when compared with the Gemini 8520. This is certainly due to the increase which has now reached 512MB RAM, two-fold greater than Gemini is only 256MB. Access a variety of functions, ranging from browsing, camera, fuel, photo gallery, Facebook, Twitter and so on, can be carried out smoothly and quickly. To speed data access, the Curve 9220 is still relying on GPRS and EDGE which is quite limited speed. You can also connect using Wi-Fi if you find a hotspot. It will be useful when browsing or download an application from the BlackBerry App World.
But one thing is awesome from the Curve 9220 is the battery resistance. If you have complained about battery life when using the BlackBerry, the Curve 9220 is guaranteed to make you surprised in a positive sense. Under conditions of normal use enough for the BlackBerry (browsing activity, fuel, photographing and push e-mail is very active), the Curve 9220 that I use can last up to 15 hours and not "shout" to be filled batteries. Even on weekends and not much activity data is performed, the Curve 9220 is able to survive 15 hours with the battery condition is still about 30%. It should be noted, I subscribe to BlackBerry Internet Service Unlimited package with 4 active email account that attracted more than 100 emails per day. Actual battery life is not surprising because Davis has been equipped with a capacity of 1450mAh battery, or approximately 30% greater than the battery Gemini.
Conclusion
BlackBerry Curve 9220 smartphone is not the most sophisticated in its price class.Excess BlackBerry smartphone is still located in the fuel, push email and social media services are made possible by the BlackBerry service Internet Service (BIS). BlackBerry Curve 9220 is sold in the price range of $ 1.999 million, pretty cheap for BlackBerry GSM phone line and only slightly more expensive than the Curve 8520 is now down in price to $ 1.599 million.
If you need a powerful smartphone for business chat (you can also use WhatsApp Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk and Windows Live), push e-mail and social media, the BlackBerry Curve 9220 is worth considering. But if three things are not your priority, there are many alternatives other smartphone that features a more complete at a price equivalent.
